Xiaomi Launches Miclaw: An AI Agent Aiming to Transform Smartphone Interaction
Xiaomi has announced the limited closed beta testing of Miclaw, a latest AI agent designed to proactively manage tasks on Xiaomi smartphones and within the company’s smart home ecosystem. The announcement, made on March 6, 2026, marks a significant step in the development of AI-powered mobile technology.
Built on Xiaomi’s MiMo large language model, Miclaw aims to move beyond the limitations of traditional voice assistants by understanding user intent and executing complex, multi-step workflows. This development reflects a broader trend of tech companies integrating more sophisticated AI into everyday devices to streamline user experiences.
Unlike voice assistants that respond to specific commands, Miclaw is designed to interpret what a user wants to achieve and then autonomously complete the necessary actions. According to Xiaomi, the system can access and utilize over 50 different system tools and ecosystem services. For example, if a user asks Miclaw to book a ride and then notify a contact of their estimated arrival time, the AI will independently book the ride and send the message without requiring separate instructions for each step.
The AI agent’s functionality extends to learning user habits and making proactive suggestions. Xiaomi states that Miclaw can even analyze subscription bills to identify potential savings, estimating around $55 annually. The system also leverages authorized data, such as calendar events and SMS notifications, to make intelligent decisions like muting a phone during meetings or pausing a robot vacuum.
This “inference-execution loop,” as Xiaomi describes it, analyzes user requests, selects the appropriate tools, executes actions and monitors results in real-time. The process is designed to be asynchronous, meaning it won’t interfere with other phone operations.
Currently, the closed beta is available exclusively to users of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra and Pro models in China. Xiaomi anticipates that Miclaw will offer a more convenient and intelligent user experience, potentially saving users both time and money through automation. The launch of Miclaw positions Xiaomi at the forefront of integrating advanced AI capabilities directly into its mobile devices.
Xiaomi also announced that the AI assistant will function within the company’s HyperConnect ecosystem, bridging the gap between mobile software and IoT hardware through natural language processing. The company is continuing to develop and refine the technology, with plans for wider availability in the future.
