Xiaomi Targets Luxury EV Market with High-Performance YU7 GT SUV
Xiaomi is intensifying its push into the high-performance electric vehicle sector with the development of its new flagship SUV, the YU7 GT. The vehicle was recently spotted undergoing rigorous testing at the Nurburgring in Germany, signaling the company’s intent to compete directly with established European luxury marques on their own turf.
The YU7 GT is engineered for extreme performance, featuring a tri-motor layout capable of producing approximately 1,526bhp. This power output positions the vehicle as a formidable rival to high-end offerings from Porsche, AMG, and Ferrari. This strategic expansion follows the groundwork laid by the groundbreaking SU7 Ultra, aiming to bring similar levels of extreme performance to a more family-oriented SUV body style.
From a design perspective, the YU7 GT draws visual comparisons to the Ferrari-style aesthetics and brutal power. The GT specification includes 21-inch wheels, wider and more aggressive wheelarches than the standard model, and a modified front end designed to optimize cooling for the high-output powertrain.
Technical specifications suggest the SUV will utilize a 93.7kWh battery, mirroring the capacity found in the SU7 saloon. Beyond raw power, Xiaomi is implementing substantial chassis upgrades to ensure handling matches the vehicle’s acceleration. These enhancements include air suspension, active ride stabilization, cutting-edge traction control systems, and power torque vectoring on the rear axle.
The company’s pricing strategy appears designed to disrupt the premium segment. Whereas high-end competitors typically start well above £130,000, the YU7 GT is expected to be positioned well below that price point. This aggressive valuation is likely intended to attract buyers considering high-end versions of the Polestar 3, Alpine A390, and the smaller Porsche Macan.
The development of the YU7 GT underscores Xiaomi’s ambition to rapidly scale its automotive presence, moving from entry-level luxury with the standard SU7—priced around $30,000—to ultra-high-performance machinery. By bridging the gap between family utility and supercar performance, Xiaomi is positioning itself as a versatile challenger in the global EV market.
