The availability of new Dender coach Yannick Ferrera for his debut on the touchline this Sunday, when Dender travels to Cercle Brugge, remains uncertain.
Ferrera recently took the helm at Dender, returning to Belgian football after a challenging stint in Egypt. He faces a significant task in steering the league’s bottom club away from relegation, a challenge he has described as
However, his first match in charge could be complicated by a lingering suspension. Ferrera is currently theoretically suspended for four matches, a carryover from the end of his time at RWDM, which would prevent him from taking his place on the Dender bench.
Yannick Ferrera on the bench or in the stands against Cercle Brugge?
The suspension stemmed from an incident prior to his dismissal from RWDM and was never served. Dender was aware of the situation, but a recent development has introduced a potential twist. “Apparently, I was still registered with RWDM until a few hours ago,” Ferrera told DAZN.

“The sanction would therefore already have been served, on paper. But I don’t know what will be decided,” he admitted. When asked about his presence on the bench Sunday, he responded, “Maybe, maybe not. We have to wait. Perhaps in the hours leading up to the match, I will learn that I have to take a seat in the stands.”
The unusual circumstances are a distinctly Belgian situation, but Ferrera remains pragmatic. “I believe that 90% of a coach’s function is done before the start of the match. Of course, you can create adjustments during the game, but during the match, it’s up to the players to do the job.”
