Žalgirių Village Flooded, Roads Impassable

Photographer Rolandas Žalgevičius reported around 8 p.m. Sunday that water levels were quickly rising.

“At 8 p.m., water was rapidly rising in Žalgirių village. All roads leading there were flooded and impassable. Residents moved their vehicles onto the highway. Farms are being inundated,” Žalgevičius said.

According to the photographer, at 8:50 p.m., the swiftly rising water in Žalgirių village encountered a herd of cattle grazing freely near the woods.

The panicked animals ran into the forest and began to wander in the darkness, unable to find a way to escape the rising waters.

“Fortunately, neighbors who heard the animals’ bellowing helped the cattle reach higher ground,” the photographer reported.
