Negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, mediated by the United States, are facing difficulties, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed on Tuesday, February 18, 2026. The stalled talks arrive as the conflict continues to draw international concern and efforts to discover a peaceful resolution.
Zelenskyy announced on his X account (formerly Twitter) that discussions held the previous day in Geneva, Switzerland, covered both military and political issues.
“Yesterday’s meeting was certainly difficult,” Zelenskyy stated, adding that Russia appears to be deliberately delaying progress toward a final agreement that was within reach.
Prior to further discussions, Zelenskyy met with the Ukrainian delegation and urged them to exert every effort to ensure the negotiations are productive and increase the potential for a peaceful resolution.
He also indicated that humanitarian issues, including the exchange of prisoners of war and the release of civilians, would be addressed during the ongoing talks.
