The 2025 Africa cup of Nations is underway, with Algeria opening their campaign with a decisive 3-0 victory over Sudan on December 25th. Adding a unique narrative to the tournament, Zinedine Zidane was present to witness his son, Luca Zidane, earn a starting role in goal for Algeria-a team he chose to represent based on his maternal heritage [[1]]. Zinedine Zidane was in attendance to watch his son, Luca Zidane, shine for Algeria at the Africa Cup of Nations. Luca put in a strong performance as Algeria secured a dominant victory!

Luca Zidane chose to represent Algeria’s national team over France, a decision influenced by the difficulty of securing a starting goalkeeper position with Les Bleus.

The 27-year-old keeper, who has Algerian heritage through his grandfather, earned a starting spot in goal for Algeria’s opening group stage match against Sudan in this year’s tournament.
