Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu, likewise known as Da S, passed away last February, and a statue commemorating her has now been unveiled. Reports indicate Hsu left behind an estate worth at least 600 million NTD. Her husband, Ju Jun Ye, is the first in line to inherit her estate. On February 10th, Mirror Weekly reported that Hsu’s mother allegedly asked Ju Jun Ye to relinquish his inheritance, and engaged a legal team to prepare for a potential dispute; however, both Hsu’s mother and her sister, Xiao S, have strongly denied the claims.
According to Taiwan’s Civil Code, Article 1138, the first in line to inherit an estate are direct descendants (children). Parents are second in line, followed by siblings, and then grandparents. As Hsu’s husband, Ju Jun Ye is a natural heir and will share the inheritance equally with the children, each receiving one-third. Hsu’s mother is not in the first line of succession.
Ju Jun Ye previously stated that his rights to Hsu’s estate would be fully managed by her mother. However, lawyer Wu Mengxiu pointed out in a social media post that, under Taiwanese law, Ju Jun Ye cannot “transfer his inheritance rights.” The first in line to inherit are Ju Jun Ye and Hsu’s two children, and if Ju Jun Ye were to renounce his inheritance, it would be equally divided between the two children.
Regarding reports of a rift between Hsu’s mother and Ju Jun Ye over the estate, she denied commissioning a legal team to pursue legal action on February 10th, emphasizing her aversion to lawsuits. She stated, “He is my son, thank you for his love for Xi Yuan, and his respect for me, and I love him too.” Xiao S firmly refuted the rumors, saying, “He is our family, we will only protect him, and will never harm him. Please stop the rumors and speculation.”
