As the Spielwarenmesse toy and game fair recently concluded, a wave of announcements is already hitting the industry. As of Sunday, February 15, 2026, several new titles are generating buzz among board game enthusiasts. The upcoming releases demonstrate a trend toward innovative gameplay and diverse themes, catering to a wide range of player preferences.

Happy Holiday

What is it? A game from Matthew Dunstan and Brett J. Gilbert, illustrated by Claus Stephan, slated for release by KOSMOS in March 2026.

Happy Holiday centers around the strategic planning of a three-week vacation across Europe. The game utilizes a drafting mechanic, where players select tiles representing cities and activities from a common market divided into bus, train, and plane routes. A key element involves collecting luggage of corresponding colors to ensure smooth travel between destinations.

Why we’re excited: The design team, Dunstan and Gilbert, are known for creating streamlined yet challenging mechanics. Happy Holiday promises a relaxing Eurogame experience, ideal for strategic thinking and daydreaming about summer getaways.

Temple Twist : Indiana Jones rencontre le Rubik’s Cube

What is it? A cooperative game designed by Bernhard Weber, scheduled for release by KOSMOS in Spring 2026.

Forget flat game boards. Temple Twist features a three-dimensional labyrinth that stands vertically. In this game (for ages 8 and up), players take on the role of archaeologists exploring a cursed temple. However, the twist is that players cannot freely communicate about their Action cards while manipulating removable walls and physically rotating the entire temple structure. This innovative design introduces a new level of spatial reasoning to cooperative gameplay.

Gravity plays a key role as a “cube explorer” falls through the chambers as the temple rotates. Players must avoid running out of energy and evade “Slimy,” a gelatinous monster that seeps through the walls.

Why we’re excited: The tactile element of manipulating a 3D object, anticipating the physics of gravity, and cooperating blindly promises both laughter and suspense.

Thunder Road: Ignition : Plus nerveux, plus petit, plus chanmé !

What is it? A game by Rob Daviau, Justin D. Jacobson, Dave Chalker, and Brett Myers. Restoration Games plans to release it for Gen Con (July 2026), with IELLO handling the French version in 2027.

If you enjoyed the chaotic fun of Thunder Road: Vendetta but were intimidated by its large box and price, Restoration Games has answered your prayers with Thunder Road: Ignition. This standalone version is compressed, streamlined, and more affordable (priced around $35).

It retains the frantic essence of the base game, but with half-boards now incorporating curved roads. The game also includes four new automotive clans with unique colors, new orders, and new types of damage and terrain.

Why we’re excited: Justin D. Jacobson sums it up perfectly: “It’s like attaching a heat-seeking missile to a car that’s too small.” A pure adrenaline rush, without the setup time of a larger game.

Wine & Cheese : Le duel épicurien

What is it? A game by Scott Almes, illustrated by Michael Menzel and Alexander Jung. Deep Print Games plans to release it in Spring 2026.

Following the success of D’Orge et de Blé, the publisher is releasing Wine & Cheese. This two-player game (classified as “Kenner” for a more experienced audience) moves away from baking to the sublime vineyards of Burgundy.

Players manage a traditional farm while sharing vineyards, pastures, and labor. Tension builds over the two in-game years as players send workers in pairs in the spring and retrieve them in the fall. The clever twist lies in its punishing scoring system: at the end of the game, players are rewarded only for the product (wine or cheese) that has earned them the least money.

Why we’re excited: This constant dilemma of schizophrenic balance! Having to perpetually juggle your wine vats and cheese wheels to avoid letting one production fall behind promises to be as delicious as it is cruel.
