A 5-year-old boy died Saturday after falling from a third-floor balcony in the La Libertad neighborhood of Puebla, Mexico.
The child, identified as Edrik Zahid, fell from the balcony of an apartment building located at the intersection of 14 Poniente and 5 Norte around 7:12 a.m. On April 25, 2026, according to initial reports.
Emergency responders arrived shortly after the call was received and found the boy with severe injuries, including traumatic brain trauma and possible spinal damage.
Despite medical efforts, the child was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was later transferred to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for identification and further investigation.
Authorities said the boy had been inside the residence when he woke up and could not find his mother. He reportedly approached the balcony and fell accidentally.
Police secured the area while investigators from the State Attorney General’s Office began gathering evidence to determine the exact circumstances of the fall.
The incident has drawn attention to child safety in residential buildings, particularly regarding unsupervised access to balconies and windows.
As of Saturday afternoon, the investigation remained open, with officials working to establish a full account of what led to the tragedy.
