La Armada confirmó that they recovered the body of a fisherman who had been missing for over a week in Lake Panguipulli, retrieving it from a depth of 65 meters using underwater robots. The 32-year-old man had set out to fish in an inflatable boat and was reported missing by his family. After an intensive search involving the Navy, Carabineros’ GOPE special forces, and firefighters, his body was located.

Authorities have confirmed the recovery of the body of a fisherman who went missing nearly a week ago in Lake Panguipulli. The body was recovered from a depth of 65 meters using remotely operated underwater vehicles deployed as part of the search effort.

The man, 32 years old, was last seen on Friday, November 21, when he launched his inflatable boat for a fishing trip. His family reported him missing that same day, prompting a search operation.

After a week of intensive searching by the Navy, the GOPE special forces of Carabineros, and firefighters, the fisherman’s body was finally located.

Technological Search Efforts

According to Santiago Herrera, the captain of the Panguipulli port, the fisherman’s body was recovered from a depth of 65 meters using one of the underwater robots assisting in the search.

“The search began with a known position – the location where the man’s boat was found – and all efforts were focused from that point,” Herrera explained.

Herrera noted that the search was complicated by the lake’s depth, which reaches 100 meters in some areas, preventing the use of divers and necessitating the use of technological resources to locate the missing man.

These efforts ultimately led to the discovery of the fisherman who had been missing for a week. The Homicide Brigade and the Criminalistics Laboratory of the Investigative Police (PDI) have been dispatched to the scene to begin investigations. The Legal Medical Service has also been requested to remove the body for an autopsy.
