Rabat, Morocco – Education remains a key priority for the Moroccan government, as evidenced by recently approved plans for the Drâa-Tafilalet region. Officials this week signed off on a 2026 action plan adn budget aimed at bolstering educational infrastructure and programs in the province, which spans the south-central part of the country and includes key cities like Ouarzazate and Zagora. The initiatives reflect a broader national effort to modernize Morocco’s education system and improve access for students across all regions.

Education officials in Morocco have approved a regional action plan and budget for 2026, signaling a commitment to ongoing improvements in the Drâa-Tafilalet region’s educational infrastructure and programs. The move comes as the country continues to focus on modernizing its education system and ensuring access to quality learning opportunities for all students.

The regional board of the Drâa-Tafilalet Academy of Education and Training approved the plan Monday, alongside a continuous training program for 2026 and a standardized internal regulation for public educational institutions. The board also reviewed and approved the 2025 performance report.

Houssine Kodad, the interim secretary-general of the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports, presided over the meeting. During the session, officials signed addendums to performance contracts for 2026 and formalized a partnership agreement focused on pedagogical guidance, reinforcing principles of good governance.

Following the board meeting, Kodad toured several schools in the region, including a visit to the multi-sports hall construction project at the Center for Preparatory Classes for Higher Education. The new facility will provide students with dedicated space for physical and athletic activities.

Kodad also visited Ain El Ati 1 school, which is participating in the “Pioneer Schools” project, to assess the project’s progress and acknowledge the efforts of teachers and administrators in implementing the reforms.

The tour continued to Al Massira secondary college, where Kodad examined the school’s facilities and extracurricular activity workshops designed to enhance the learning experience.

Kodad also inspected construction sites for a new primary school in Taghzout and a qualifying secondary school in “the University City.” Both facilities are slated to open for the 2026/2027 school year, adding much-needed capacity to the region’s educational system. The construction projects underscore the government’s investment in expanding educational access.
