Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is traveling to the United States to discuss the potential resumption of nuclear negotiations between the U.S. And Iran. The move comes as indirect talks between the two countries have recently restarted.
According to Israel’s Prime Minister’s Office, Netanyahu is scheduled to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington, D.C. On February 11 to discuss the matter. The upcoming meeting underscores the high stakes involved in the evolving diplomatic situation.
The Times of Israel reported that Netanyahu is expected to depart from Ben Gurion International Airport at noon on February 10 via a private jet.
The announcement from the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office followed a February 6 meeting in Muscat, Oman, where U.S. Special Envoy for Iran Steve Witkoff and Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi engaged in indirect nuclear talks – their first in eight months.
Netanyahu had initially planned to travel to the U.S. To attend the first meeting of a peace committee chaired by President Trump on February 19, but has moved the trip forward by approximately one week.
Iran has stated it will only discuss its nuclear program and the lifting of sanctions at the negotiating table. Mohammad Eslami, Iran’s Vice President and Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), indicated on Monday that the country could dilute its 60% enriched uranium if sanctions are lifted.
Meanwhile, Israel is reportedly urging the U.S. To demand that Iran achieve “zero enrichment” of nuclear materials, limit the range of its ballistic missiles to 300 kilometers, and cease financial support for militant groups in the Middle East.
