Rising Formula 1 star Andrea Kimi Antonelli was involved in a car accident on Saturday evening near his home in San Marino, just days before the start of testing at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir.

Mercedes confirmed the incident in an official statement: “On Saturday night, near his home in San Marino, Kimi was involved in a traffic accident. Police attended the scene after being called by Kimi. His car was the only vehicle involved, and while the vehicle sustained damage, Kimi was unharmed.”

The accident occurred on the Serravalle highway, with police reports indicating a collision with the safety barrier. No other vehicles were involved.

Antonelli was driving a highly exclusive vehicle: an AMG GT 63 PRO 4MATIC+ “Motorsport Collectors Edition,” a limited-run model of which only 200 units were produced.

The incident occurred shortly before recent testing at Barcelona, where Mercedes highlighted the delivery of the special vehicle to Antonelli, featuring unique details like a hand-painted Petronas livery and high-performance technical specifications. These include an aerodynamic configuration with reduced lift and an improved cooling system. Under the hood is a 4.0-liter biturbo V8 engine, capable of producing 612 horsepower. One can only wonder what Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff will say when the repair bill arrives.
