A resident of Groningen was seriously injured Friday evening during a home invasion, and police have arrested one suspect while continuing to search for another.

The incident occurred around 9:15 p.m. On the Rode Weeshuisstraat in the city center, according to reports. Police responded to a call regarding the home invasion and quickly apprehended one suspect at the scene after the resident was able to subdue them. The case underscores the ongoing challenges of maintaining safety in urban residential areas.

During the arrest, officers drew their firearms, as seen in photos from the scene. The suspect was then taken into custody.

Authorities are currently searching for a second suspect described as a man around 25 years old with light skin, wearing a Lacoste cap and a Nike tech jacket or vest. Police are urging anyone with information to contact them immediately, but not to approach the individual directly. A Burgernet alert has been issued with the suspect’s description.

The injured resident was treated at the scene by a mobile medical team and transported to a hospital with unspecified injuries. The extent of their injuries remains unknown.

Police are investigating the incident and have not released further details at this time.

Earlier reports of a stabbing at the location were clarified as being related to the home invasion, according to 112Groningen.
