Stan Wawrinka to Headline Gonet Geneva Open
Stan Wawrinka (ATP 92), a two-time tournament champion in 2016 and 2017, will be the first marquee player at the eleventh edition of the Gonet Geneva Open, scheduled for May 17-23 at the Parc des Eaux-Vives. The Geneva Open is a key stop on the clay court circuit as players prepare for the French Open.
Wawrinka has already achieved one of his goals for what he has indicated will be his final season: a return to the top 100 of the ATP rankings. The Swiss veteran doesn’t appear to be slowing down, and a 17th career title remains within reach. Securing that title in Geneva, where he last hoisted a trophy, would be a fitting moment in his illustrious career.
The Gonet Geneva Open is thrilled to welcome back Wawrinka, whose impressive resume includes three Grand Slam titles – the 2014 Australian Open, the 2015 French Open, and the 2016 US Open – as well as a Masters 1000 victory in Monte Carlo in 2014, a Davis Cup title in 2014, and a gold medal in doubles at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. His final appearance in front of a Romandy audience is sure to be an emotional occasion and a memorable moment for fans.
