TECNO showcased a range of innovative concepts at Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona, including color-changing phones and devices with modular magnetic attachments, signaling a push for greater customization and adaptability in smartphone design.
The company unveiled new AI assistants for its phones, alongside a prototype phone with a color-shifting back panel and a modular design allowing for easy hardware upgrades. These developments reflect a broader industry trend toward integrating more artificial intelligence and user-configurable features into mobile devices.
Smart Assistants
TECNO demonstrated a clear focus on software enhancements, revealing an upgraded version of its Ella AI Assistant, as well as an AI Health Assistant that utilizes the camera system to measure vital signs such as heart rate and blood oxygen levels.
While these features initially appear demonstrative, the increasing reliance on smartphones for health monitoring gives them practical relevance.
The company also introduced AI MindHub, a self-organizing system designed to automatically sort files, notes, and media without the need for manual folder creation, aiming to simplify daily content management.
Color-Changing Phone
TECNO unveiled the POVA NEON, a phone featuring a transparent space on the rear filled with ionized neon gas that continuously changes color, giving the device a unique appearance.
The company did not disclose whether the phone will be released commercially or if it remains a concept model.
Impressive Prototype
Beyond commercial devices, TECNO presented a revolutionary design based on what it calls Modular Magnetic Interconnection Technology, a system that enables magnetic attachment of additional modules to the phone’s body.
These modules include an external battery pack with a capacity of 3000 or 6000 milliampere-hours, a zoom lens, a dedicated action camera module, and an independent imaging platform, allowing users to expand the device’s capabilities without carrying separate devices.Â
The phone measures just 4.9 millimeters thick, thinner than the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge and iPhone Air at 5.8 and 5.6 millimeters respectively, making the TECNO prototype easily usable even with a module attached.
Whereas commercial launch plans for this concept were not confirmed, it reflects the company’s vision for a more flexible and customizable future in the smartphone world.
TECNO has not yet announced pricing or release dates for the new devices, stating that launch plans will be announced on a market-specific timeline.
