Apple Unveils iPhone 17e, Balancing Features and Affordability

Apple has introduced the iPhone 17e, a new addition to its smartphone lineup positioned as a more budget-friendly alternative to the standard iPhone 17. The device, announced on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, will be available starting Wednesday, March 11, 2026, in over 70 countries.

The iPhone 17e starts at $599 for the 256GB model, making it $100 less expensive than the equivalent iPhone 16e due to doubled base storage. This pricing strategy reflects Apple’s efforts to offer a compelling option for consumers seeking modern features without the premium cost of its flagship devices. Pre-orders are now open at Apple and through various carriers and retailers.

Despite the lower price point, the iPhone 17e boasts several key features, including the A19 chip, Ceramic Shield 2 for enhanced scratch resistance, and a 48MP Fusion camera. It also supports fast MagSafe wireless charging up to 15W, a significant upgrade from the 7.5W charging offered by the iPhone 16e. The device incorporates USB‑C connectivity and comes standard with 256GB of storage.

The iPhone 17e features a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display with a new seven-layer antireflective coating designed to reduce glare. It also includes Face ID for secure authentication and a customizable Action button. Available colors include black, white, and a new soft pink.

According to comparisons with the iPhone 17, the iPhone 17e has a slightly smaller screen size (6.1 inches versus 6.3 inches) and different camera specifications (48MP; 12MP versus 48MP, 48MP; 18MP). The iPhone 17e also offers up to 2x faster CPU and a 2.2x faster 4-core GPU compared to previous models. Battery life is estimated at 21 hours, while the iPhone 17 offers 24 hours and 31 minutes.

The introduction of the iPhone 17e underscores the growing trend of manufacturers offering more accessible smartphone options without sacrificing core functionality. This move allows Apple to cater to a wider range of consumers and compete effectively in a dynamic market. More details about the iPhone 17e can be found here.
