Márki-Zay stated that the attacker was a “known Fidesz sympathizer” who brandished a weapon at those present. Authorities on the scene immediately intervened, disarming and detaining the individual.

In his social media post, Márki-Zay expressed gratitude to the police for their swift and professional response. The event was being livestreamed at the time of the incident, meaning many viewers witnessed the tense moments unfold. The mayor promised to share further details regarding the circumstances of the attack and the identity of the perpetrator later Saturday evening.
