Manchester City secured a League Cup title on Sunday, defeating Arsenal 2-0 in the final. The victory marks a return to domestic dominance for City, and adds another trophy to their impressive collection.

The match saw goals from Nico Otamendi in the 60th minute and another from Otamendi in the 64th minute, securing the win for the Cityzens. This is Manchester City’s ninth League Cup title in history.

The triumph comes after a difficult period for Manchester City, who were recently eliminated from the Champions League in the Round of 16 following a 5-1 aggregate defeat to Real Madrid. Despite the Champions League exit, City remains in contention for three trophies this season: the Premier League, the League Cup, and the FA Cup.

Currently, Manchester City sits second in the Premier League table with 61 points, trailing Arsenal who lead with 70 points. Pep Guardiola’s team has eight league matches remaining as they chase the title.

Manchester City will similarly face Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-finals on April 4th. This match will feature a compelling matchup between Egyptian stars Omar Marmoush of Manchester City and Mohamed Salah of Liverpool.

For Omar Marmoush, this League Cup win adds to a growing list of Egyptian players who have tasted success in English football. Marmoush scored three goals during City’s League Cup run, including one in a 3-1 victory over Swansea City in the fourth round and a brace in a 3-1 win against Newcastle United in the second leg of the semi-final.

Mohamed Salah remains the most decorated Egyptian player in English football history, with two Premier League titles (2020, 2025), a League Cup and FA Cup (both 2022), and the Charity Shield in the same year. He also secured a Champions League title in 2019, along with the Super Cup and Club World Cup that followed. Mohamed Elneny has also enjoyed success, winning two Charity Shields (2017, 2020) and the FA Cup in 2017.

Bernardo Silva expressed his pride in the team’s performance after the final, according to the Egyptian Today.

Guardiola acknowledged the need for rest, but also emphasized Arsenal’s strong position in the title race, as reported by Sky News Arabia.
