Uppsalaprofilen and musician HP Burman has passed away at the age of 74. The news was shared by the Jämtland-based cult band Hardda Ku, Hardda Geit on their Facebook page. Burman, widely known as the “eternal student,” had been a prominent figure in Uppsala’s music scene since moving there in the early 1970s to study at the university. Born in Skåne and raised in Värmland, Burman became closely associated with Jämtland through his music, despite never residing in the county. He spent much of his life as a student in Uppsala, where he joined the folk music group Hemkört and later became a member of Hardda Ku, Hardda Geit — a band that achieved cult status and became a staple at music festivals. Burman was celebrated not only for his musical versatility — playing numerous string instruments — but also for his storytelling, songwriting, and charismatic stage presence. Described as an artist, showman, troubadour, and lifelong learner, he remained active in Sweden’s cultural circles for decades. His death marks the end of an era for Uppsala’s cultural community, where he was both a beloved performer and a symbol of enduring curiosity and artistic dedication.
