Koru Kari Finalists Revealed: Latvia’s Top Composers Shine in National Competition

Choir conductors Chris Noah of Olaine and Jānis Aišpurs of Ikšķile opened up about their emotional journeys and teamwork on TV3’s “Koru kari” in an interview with Delfi, revealing how the competition has evolved faster than expected.

Despite the display having only recently begun, four remaining choirs are already set to face off in the quarter-finals on April 26, 2026. Chris Noah described a personal pre-performance ritual involving two steps: first, each member shares their smile and readiness with team managers Aija and Kristiāna, with every smashed plate being served and saved by the door; second, the group gathers for a silent unity chant, placing hands together and centering themselves while shouting “Olaine!”

When asked which choir he’d love to see win if not his own, Noah expressed admiration for Finķis and Madona’s green choir, noting they were friends before the show and have grown into close bonds with both Helvijs and his team. He added that he’s been observing Helvijs closely, impressed by how quickly he’s adapted to the show’s format, even borrowing a few mannerisms.

Jānis Aišpurs reflected on his deep connection to choral music, calling his participation in “Koru kari” a beautiful fusion of his two passions: choir music and popular music. He highlighted that he’s brought the latter to life alongside his band “The Sound Poets.” Aišpurs recalled eight years singing in Māra Sirmā’s choir “Kamēr,” describing it as his second home and family, where he gained life experience, friendships, and skills in collaboration—memories he ranks among the best of his life.

The Delfi interview coincided with recent developments in the competition, including the revelation of three semi-finalists who performed pieces inspired by Latvia’s most celebrated composer. Earlier coverage from Jauns.lv, and Europesays.com confirmed the semi-finalists’ musical tributes, while Santa.lv shared photos showing protestors tossing eggs at depictions of limbažnieki and Ulmanis, countered by Daudziņa sparking a storm of opinions on screen.

As the competition intensifies, fans continue to engage through voting, with Kokteilis.lv listing the full roster of ten choir leaders for the current season, including DJ Ella, Chris Noah, and Finķis.
