UDF Supporters Campaign for V.D. Satheesan to Lead as Chief Minister
Supporters of V.D. Satheesan have launched a widespread campaign demanding his appointment as Chief Minister, with demonstrations spanning from local districts in Kerala to international gatherings in the United States.
The push for Satheesan’s leadership reached as far as Texas, where UDF supporters held a meeting in Houston to voice their backing for his appointment. This international show of support mirrors a surge of activity within Kerala, where party workers have taken to the streets to demand that Satheesan take the helm.
Protests and demonstrations have been reported in several key areas, including Ernakulam, Kozhikode, and Kannur. Many of these supporters have adopted the narrative that Satheesan is the rightful choice because he “led the fight” during the campaign, arguing that his leadership during the struggle should translate into the state’s top executive role.
However, the movement has faced internal resistance. Some supporters have continued their street protests despite a ban imposed by the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC). This internal friction has reportedly led to party leaders being summoned to Delhi, suggesting that the leadership struggle is being addressed at a higher organizational level.
While the grassroots energy remains high, some reports suggest a disconnect between the workers’ demands and the legislative reality. Early reports indicate that Satheesan may be lagging in critical support from fellow MLAs, a factor that could complicate his path to the chief minister’s office.
The current unrest underscores a significant divide between the rank-and-file party workers and the formal leadership structure as the UDF navigates its transition to power.
