Belgium Braces for Brutal Cold Snap and Return of Snow
A sharp decline in temperature is sweeping across Belgium, bringing a return of wintry conditions and “polar air” to the region.

Meteorologist Luc Trullemans has warned of a “brutal cold snap” that is expected to create a “winter feel” across the country. This sudden shift includes forecasts for snow and temperatures that are expected to remain “barely positive.”
The weather transition has already triggered warnings, with one Walloon province placed on yellow alert as the region enters the period known as the “Saints de glace” (Ice Saints). Weather officials are closely monitoring the specific regions affected by the incoming snowfall.
Looking ahead at the remainder of May, the meteorological outlook is described as being “worthy of autumn,” with a forecast dominated by rain, coolness, and intermittent snow. This sudden return to winter-like weather underscores the volatility of the current seasonal transition in Western Europe.
