Vatican Bank Reports Record €51 Million Net Profit for 2025, Increases Dividend to Pope
The Institute for the Works of Religion (IOR) has posted its strongest financial results in a decade, reporting a record net profit of €51 million for the 2025 fiscal year. According to the 14th edition of its Annual Report, this figure represents a 55.5% increase over 2024, marking the bank’s most successful balance sheet in ten years.
Driven by this growth and a focus on capitalization, the Cardinal Commission has approved a dividend of €24.3 million to be distributed to the Pope. This payout reflects a 76.1% increase compared to the 2024 dividend, a move the IOR stated is “in coherence with the mission of the Institute in support of works of religion and charity.”
The bank’s shift toward higher profitability was supported by an increase in client deposits and diversified revenue streams. Detailed financial data from the report shows:
- Intermediation Margin: €66.3 million, up from €51.5 million in 2024.
- Interest Margin: €32.3 million, compared to €29.4 million in 2024.
- Commission Margin: €26.2 million, remaining largely stable against the previous year’s €26.5 million.
The financial surge underscores a broader institutional transformation. As noted in reports regarding the conclusion of specific reform mandates, the IOR has moved away from its historical reputation as a “tax haven,” focusing instead on transparency and regulatory compliance.
This positive financial trajectory suggests that the bank’s internal restructuring and updated management strategies are yielding significant returns, strengthening the Holy See’s capacity to fund its global charitable operations.
