Bowen Yang Will Miss Tonight’s ‘Saturday Night Live’ Episode

Bowen Yang will be absent from tonight’s Saturday Night Live studio, though he contributed to the show this week with pre-taped material.

Yang announced his absence on Instagram Stories today, October 18, 2025, writing, “Missing the show tonight but it will be sooooo fun sab is amazing,” referencing host and musical guest Sabrina Carpenter. He is in Los Angeles to receive the Academy Museum’s Vantage Award at a gala this evening, alongside Penélope Cruz, Bruce Springsteen, and Walter Salles. This award recognizes individuals who champion the art of cinema.

Despite missing the live show, a source confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that Yang was at SNL earlier this week writing and filming a segment for the episode. Fans had speculated whether Yang would reprise his popular impression of former Congressman George Santos, who was released from prison yesterday after receiving a commutation of his sentence from President Donald Trump. Yang’s portrayal of Santos, known for exaggerating his life story, became a recurring and widely-shared highlight of the show; you can find examples of his work on the SNL website.

Carpenter is making her hosting debut and performing as the musical guest, marking the first time in season 51 a performer has taken on both roles. Saturday Night Live airs Saturdays at 11:30 p.m. ET/8:30 p.m. PT on NBC and Peacock.

Show officials have not commented on whether Yang will return to the studio next week.
