Colorado Sends Out Ballots for 2025 Coordinated Election, Warns of Disinformation
Ballots for the 2025 Coordinated Election were mailed to Colorado voters today, prompting state officials to urge vigilance against election disinformation.
Secretary of State Jena Griswold emphasized the importance of relying on official sources for election information. “Election disinformation is a political tool used to undermine our democracy and divide our nation,” Griswold said. “Coloradans should use trusted sources for election information, including GoVoteColorado.gov and their County Clerk’s Office.” This election includes local, state, and federal races, making accurate information crucial for informed participation.
Officials are alerting voters to potential scams spreading through online channels, email, robocalls, and text messages, including the use of artificially generated media like “deepfakes.” Voters are advised to verify information with Colorado state and local government election officials and to be wary of sensational content or inconsistent information shared on social media. The U.S. Election Assistance Commission provides additional resources for identifying and reporting disinformation.
The Secretary of State’s Office distributes official election information via ColoradoSOS.gov. Griswold’s office stated that voters should critically evaluate information before sharing it and confirm its accuracy with trusted sources to avoid inadvertently amplifying misinformation.
