Arc Raiders Developers Envision Long-Term Support, Forego Traditional Roadmap
The developers of the free-to-play cooperative third-person shooter, Arc Raiders, have stated their intention to support the game for at least a decade, explaining their decision not to publish a conventional development roadmap.
Embark Studios, the team behind Arc Raiders, recently concluded a successful “Server Slam” playtest that saw a peak of over 25,000 concurrent players on Steam, signaling strong player interest ahead of the game’s full launch. The team has been closely observing player feedback and analyzing data from playtests, including comparisons to their previous title, Marathon. According to a designer, “Marathon’s reception was a great A/B test… They made decisions that we didn’t, and vice versa… we could compare and contrast how some of those things shook out.”
Despite requests from the community, a first-person mode is not currently planned for Arc Raiders, with developers emphasizing the importance of the game’s cooperative focus and the tactical advantages offered by the third-person perspective. The game’s design centers around scavenging for loot and engaging in coordinated team-based combat against mechanized threats. This focus on social interaction and cooperative gameplay is a key differentiator in the competitive free-to-play market, as detailed in recent analyses of the genre by Newzoo.
Embark Studios intends to continually evolve Arc Raiders based on player engagement and data analysis, prioritizing long-term sustainability over short-term roadmap commitments. Further updates and the full launch details will be announced as they become available; players can find more information on the official Arc Raiders website.
Developers stated they will continue to monitor player feedback and adapt the game’s development accordingly.
