Jacksonville University Receives $12 Million Gift to Expand Public Policy Institute
Jacksonville University announced today a $12 million gift from Preston Haskell to support and expand its public policy institute, which will now be named the Haskell Public Policy Institute.
The commitment will allow the institute to broaden its impact throughout Jacksonville and strengthen its ties with the university’s College of Law, providing students with increased opportunities to engage with government officials, community leaders, and the legislative process. A new downtown Jacksonville location will serve as a central hub for research, discussion, and collaboration, supplementing the institute’s existing presence on the university’s main campus.
Haskell, a founding member of the institute’s board of advisors, made the generous donation to bolster civic engagement and leadership development in the region. “Preston Haskell’s investment is a milestone moment for this university and for the city we serve,” said Jacksonville University President Tim Cost. “The Haskell Public Policy Institute is well-positioned to shape the future of civic leadership and public service in this region, equipping students with the skills, experiences, and values needed to lead with purpose in a rapidly evolving world.”
This investment comes at a time when informed public discourse and effective policy solutions are increasingly vital for addressing complex societal challenges, as noted by organizations like the Brookings Institution. University officials stated the institute will begin planning for the downtown location immediately, with a projected opening date to be announced in the coming months.
