New Los Angeles Bars Offer Innovative Cuisine and Cocktails
Los Angeles’ vibrant dining and nightlife scene expanded today with the opening of three new establishments – Bar Avoja, Daisy Margarita Bar, and Bar 109 – each offering a unique take on classic concepts.
Bar Avoja, located at 1545 Wilcox Ave. in Hollywood, is a new venture from the partners behind Mother Wolf, Giancarlo Pagani and Evan Funke. The bar, situated in a rear room of the popular restaurant, focuses on Italian-inspired spritzes and a menu featuring both Roman street food like arancini cacio e pepe and California-Italian fusion dishes. The rise of innovative cocktail bars reflects a growing demand for experiential dining.
In Sherman Oaks, Daisy Margarita Bar at 14633 Ventura Blvd. is reimagining the traditional Mexican cantina with a wide array of margarita variations, including frozen guacamole and creamsicle flavors. The bar also offers a full menu of aguachiles, tacos, and entrees like branzino asado and lamb shank. For more on the history of the margarita, visit Difford’s Guide.
Meanwhile, Bar 109 at 641 N. Western Ave. in Melrose Hill is garnering attention for its inventive cocktails crafted by head bartender Kayla Garcia. The bar features unique drinks like a martini with saline and white kelp and a boulevardier infused with oolong tea, alongside snacks such as Wagyu beef hotdogs and a shrimp cocktail. Chef-owner Brian Baik, a veteran of Eleven Madison Park, plans to open a tasting menu restaurant adjacent to the bar. Officials at all three establishments stated they are eager to contribute to the city’s evolving culinary landscape and anticipate further menu expansions in the coming months.
