South Dakota State Volleyball Remains Undefeated in Summit League After Five-Set Win
The South Dakota State Jackrabbits secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over the University of South Dakota yesterday, remaining perfect in Summit League play and extending their record to 12-0.
The match, played on November 2, 2025, saw SDSU overcome a strong challenge from USD, who fell to 8-4 in conference play and now sit third in the Summit League standings. Sylvie Zgonc led the Jackrabbits with a season-high 28 points, including 24 kills, and 11 digs, while Hannah Klein contributed 13 kills and 14.5 points. Rylee Martin orchestrated the offense with 44 assists, adding 11 digs and four block assists. For the Coyotes, freshman Ava Ball paced the team with 19.5 points and 17 kills, followed by Morgan Bode’s 17 points and eight blocks.
The contest was a back-and-forth affair, with USD taking the first set 25-22 after building a significant early lead. SDSU responded emphatically with a dominant 25-13 win in the second set, and then edged out a close 25-22 victory in the third. USD forced a decisive fifth set with a 25-19 win in the fourth, but SDSU ultimately prevailed 15-8, fueled by a crucial 4-0 run. This victory solidifies SDSU’s position as a strong contender for the Summit League championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA Women’s Volleyball Tournament.
