The Chinese EV market is heating up, and xiaomi’s SU7 is at the center of a swirling debate regarding potential upgrades and pricing adjustments. Unconfirmed reports and alleged spy photos suggest a refresh of the popular electric sedan could be arriving as early as 2026, two years after its initial launch, with improvements focused on battery technology and driver-assistance systems. Amidst the speculation,Xiaomi is currently offering substantial discounts on existing models, creating a critical decision point for prospective buyers.

Spy Photos and Discounts Stir the Market for Xiaomi’s SU7 EV

The Chinese electric vehicle (EV) market is experiencing a period of rapid innovation, with new models and updates appearing almost weekly. The latest focus is on Xiaomi’s SU7, as purported spy photos of an updated version have sparked debate about significant technical changes and a potential price increase.

Images circulating online reveal a prototype vehicle with subtle exterior modifications. Automotive enthusiasts have noted a revised front lip shape and an altered air intake configuration. While these changes are minor, they reinforce earlier reports suggesting the possible adoption of a vertical grille from the SU7 Ultra flagship model, replacing the current SU7’s horizontal design. Such adjustments could refine the vehicle’s appearance and potentially improve cooling or aerodynamics.

Technical Upgrades and Rumors of a Powerful Battery

However, the design tweaks represent only part of the story. A list of 12 potential technical upgrades is actively circulating on social media platforms. According to these unconfirmed reports, the updated SU7 could feature a second-generation Kirin battery with 5C charging capability. This would allow for approximately 124 miles of range to be added in just five minutes – comparable to the refueling time of a gasoline-powered vehicle. Furthermore, this battery could extend the overall range to over 497 miles, a substantial figure.

Another wave of speculation centers around a transition to a 900-volt platform. Higher voltage systems enable faster charging and potentially greater efficiency. A new Thor-U chip for advanced driver-assistance systems is also anticipated, signaling progress in autonomous driving technology. In terms of comfort, rumors suggest the inclusion of a closed dual-chamber air suspension system, LiDAR in all configurations, and seats with ventilation, heating, and massage functions.

Company Denial and Market Dynamics

Interestingly, sources claim that the core electric motors and powertrain will remain unchanged, with the primary upgrades focused on electronics, the battery, and the chassis. Accompanying the potential improvements are reports of a price increase. Xiaomi SU7 is projected to become approximately $1,180 more expensive, equivalent to 9,900 yuan. This price adjustment is understandable given the proposed technological advancements.

However, Xiaomi Auto has officially denied any plans for a model refresh or price changes. Company representatives told Chinese publication 36kr that no information regarding an update has been released. Several dealership representatives have also confirmed they have not received internal notifications about upcoming changes. Despite this denial, rumors persist, as the timeline aligns with a typical update cycle – two years after the model’s initial launch, slated for early 2026, to maintain competitiveness in the rapidly evolving Chinese market.

Buyer’s Dilemma: Discount Now or Wait for Upgrades?

Adding to the intrigue, delivery times for the current Pro and Max versions have been shortened, and discounts of approximately $3,540 (30,000 yuan) are available in select regions. This creates a genuine dilemma for potential buyers: take advantage of the current offer and purchase the SU7 now, or wait for the potential update, which promises to be more expensive but feature significantly improved technology. This activity suggests Xiaomi is poised to challenge established players with its innovative approach to the EV segment. The company’s moves are being closely watched as it seeks to gain market share in a highly competitive landscape.
