Poland captain Robert Lewandowski had a good laugh revisiting a 2006 interview during the national team’s recent November training camp.
The November international break proved successful for Robert Lewandowski, as the Barcelona striker registered an assist against the Netherlands and scored in a win over Malta.
While enjoying some downtime, the Polish captain unearthed an interview he gave back in 2006 and couldn’t contain his amusement while reading it, a moment captured and shared by Łączy nas Piłka.
– From the reserves to the national team. Robert Lewandowski, a product of Varsovia, is just shy of 18 years old. He appeared in training with Legia Warsaw’s reserve team last summer, but took his first steps in senior football with Delta Warsaw. The talented forward is slowly becoming a threat to third-division goalkeepers. This was noticed by the coach of the national junior team for under-18s… – Lewandowski read aloud, before bursting into laughter at a minor inaccuracy.
– Recently, I’ve been scoring goals quite consistently and was quietly hoping for a call-up. Despite that, I’m pleasantly surprised and very happy. I will try to show my best and establish myself in the squad for the long term. I would also like to be among the eighteen players who travel to the Slovakia Cup – the national team captain continued, adding that he’d never actually heard of the tournament.
– I’m no longer bouncing off defenders like ping pong balls. But words… Playing in the first league is my biggest dream. Am I nervous? No, I’m going to Bielsko-Biała! I’m optimistic and hope to convince the coach of my abilities. That was the interview,” he admitted.
Lewandowski will now turn his attention back to club duties with Barcelona, who are scheduled to face Athletic Bilbao in La Liga on Saturday.
