A woman was shot and killed by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers in Minneapolis, Minnesota, after authorities say she attempted to ram officers with her vehicle.
The woman has been identified as 37-year-old Renee Good, according to a CBS News report.
The Department of Homeland Security stated that the woman tried to hit police personnel with her car.
ICE officials claim the shooting occurred as an officer was defending themselves.
President Donald Trump asserted the shooting appeared to be an act of self-defense.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump alleged the woman intentionally and “viciously” drove her car at the ICE officer, obstructing their work.
“The officer appears to have shot her in self-defense,” he wrote.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz called for calm, saying, “I understand your anger. I am angry too.”
“I’ve seen the video. Don’t believe the propaganda,” Walz added. “The state will ensure a full, fair, and rapid investigation to ensure accountability and justice.”

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey accused federal authorities of attempting to cover up the incident.
During a press conference regarding the incident, Frey used an expletive, stating, “ICE, get the hell out of our city.”
ICE carries out deportation operations across the United States.
The Department of Homeland Security stated the deceased woman was an individual attempting to interfere with law enforcement activity.
According to the department, “one of the insurgents used their vehicle as a weapon, attempting to kill our law enforcement officers.”
The department also characterized the incident as “domestic terrorism.”
Interior Secretary: ‘The woman shot was attempting to kill officers’
U.S. Interior Secretary Kristi Noem held a press conference following the incident.
Noem stated she had spoken with President Donald Trump and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, adding that “the loss of life was preventable.”
She explained the incident began as ICE officers were attempting to free a stuck vehicle, and that “a group of agitators had been harassing the agents throughout the day.”
Noem alleged the woman who was shot, “followed and blocked the agents,” and then “used her vehicle as a weapon, attempting to kill the officers.”
The ICE officer who fatally shot the 37-year-old woman is “an experienced employee,” Noem said, adding that there have been previous attempts to attack officers with vehicles.
Footage from the scene shows a strong reaction from residents in the neighborhood following the shooting.
People can be heard shouting phrases such as “Shame on you” and “Murderers” at the officers.
CBS News, a BBC partner, reports that officers deployed pepper spray against protesters.
U.S. authorities announced approximately 2,000 personnel have been deployed to Minneapolis and surrounding areas following reports of threats against Somali residents in the area.
A tough stance on immigration was a key promise of Trump’s election campaign.
ICE agents have been mobilized across the United States.
Rümeysa Öztürk, a 30-year-old doctoral student in child development at Tufts University in Boston, was also detained by masked ICE agents on March 25, 2025, while leaving her home to attend an iftar dinner, as reported by BBC Turkish.
In 2020, protests spread across many cities in the U.S. following the death of George Floyd during police custody in Minneapolis, as detailed in this BBC report.
