Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi will stand trial on rape charges, a source close to the case confirmed to franceinfo on Tuesday, February 24. The decision comes after the Nanterre prosecutor’s office requested the case be sent to the criminal court in early August 2025.
The 27-year-old Moroccan international was initially placed under investigation in March 2023 following accusations from a young woman alleging she was raped at his home in Boulogne-Billancourt. Hakimi maintains that any contact was consensual.
“We are awaiting this trial determined and combative so that justice is done,” said Fanny Colin, Hakimi’s lawyer. “A trial is ordered in the presence of an accusation based solely on the word of a woman who has obstructed all investigations, who has refused all medical examinations and DNA tests, who has refused the exploitation of her mobile phone, who has refused to grant the name of a key witness.”

Colin further stated that two psychological evaluations of the accuser revealed a “lack of lucidity” regarding the alleged events and an absence of post-traumatic symptoms. She too claimed the accuser attempted to conceal messages with a friend discussing plans to “exploit” Hakimi financially.
The case is set to unfold against the backdrop of PSG’s crucial Champions League match against Monaco on Wednesday, February 25. The stakes are high as PSG looks to advance in the tournament.
Rachel-Flore Pardo, the lawyer for the accuser, welcomed the decision to send the case to trial. “After three years of legal battle, my client welcomes with relief the order to prosecute Achraf Hakimi before the departmental criminal court for rape,” she said. “If justice has been exemplary in this case, the more general treatment of this case reminds us of one thing: there are still environments where the MeToo movement has not broken through the wall of sound, with, in the front line, the world of men’s football.”
