Adamczyková Wins Silver in Snowboard Cross at Milan-Cortina Games

Eva Adamczyková, 32, secured a silver medal in snowboard cross at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, marking a significant achievement as a new mother. This win highlights the dedication and resilience of athletes returning to competition after childbirth, a topic of growing interest in sports medicine and women’s health.

The Czech team’s performance at the games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo was further boosted by a gold medal from snowboarder Zuzana Maděrová in the parallel giant slalom and a silver medal for speed skater Metoděj Jílek in the 5000m event.

Italy’s Michela Moioli, the bronze medalist and champion from Pchjongchang 2018, rounded out the podium. Eighteen-year-aged Karolína Hrušová was eliminated in the eighth-finals during her Olympic debut.

Adamczyková began the medal day by winning the morning qualification round. On her way to silver, she completed four elimination rounds, with Australian Josie Baff being her sole competitor throughout.

The athlete from Vrchlabí defeated the 2023 world champion in the quarter-finals, but finished second to Baff in the eighth-finals, semi-finals, and ultimately the final.

In the final run, Adamczyková started in third position with Moioli close behind. The double world champion then overtook Switzerland’s Noémi Wiedmer on the inside and moved into second place.

In the final meters, Adamczyková attempted to challenge Baff, but the 23-year-old Australian held on to a narrow lead.

Hrušová achieved the 23rd fastest time in qualification and maintained a position for advancement for most of her eighth-final run.

However, she was overtaken by Germany’s Jana Fischer in the final moments, finishing third and being classified 22nd overall.

A mixed team event in snowboardcross is scheduled for Sunday.
