Advanced Cardiac Imaging Now Available in Guanare Offers New Hope for Patients

A new diagnostic technique, Transesophageal Echocardiography, became available in Guanare, Venezuela on March 18, 2026, marking a significant advancement in cardiac care for the region. This sophisticated procedure allows for the detailed assessment of heart conditions, potentially leading to earlier and more accurate diagnoses. Access to advanced cardiac imaging is crucial for improving patient outcomes and reducing mortality rates from heart disease.

According to Dr. Francys Seijas, a clinical cardiologist, the procedure is essential for identifying complex heart conditions such as endocarditis, congenital malformations, valvular disease, and blood clots in the atria. “This procedure is fundamental to identify pathologies…that require a more detailed view of the heart’s structure to guarantee the patient’s life,” Dr. Seijas explained.

Transesophageal Echocardiography involves inserting an ultrasound probe through the esophagus, similar to an endoscopy. This positioning provides a clearer image of the heart than a traditional echocardiogram, as it bypasses interference from ribs and lung tissue. The increased precision allows clinicians to produce confident diagnoses and develop effective treatment plans, whether medical or surgical, within Guanare.

The implementation of this service is being led by Dr. José Luis Nava, a recognized cardiologist and echocardiographer. The availability of this technology locally aims to reduce the need for patients to travel to other cities within Venezuela to access this level of cardiac imaging. The studies are currently being conducted at the Dra. Francys Seijas Cardiology Clinic, located on Carrera 2 with Calle 8 in the Curazao sector of Guanare, in the building that formerly housed the Tía Dorita School.

The introduction of this advanced diagnostic tool represents a positive step forward for healthcare in the Portuguesa state. “It fills us with satisfaction to see how medicine in our state continues to evolve to provide timely responses to those suffering from heart disease,” officials stated. The health professionals involved encourage residents to prioritize preventative cardiac check-ups and seek care from qualified specialists.
