For sportscaster Dionne de Graaff, March 17th is always a deeply significant day. This year, that weight was particularly heavy as it marked the 25th anniversary of the death of her then-partner, Chris Götte, the drummer for the Dutch band BLØF.

On Tuesday, 59-year-old De Graaff reflected on the tragic event that occurred 25 years ago. Götte died in a motorcycle accident on March 17, 2001. The loss remains a profound wound for the sportscaster, who was in a relationship with the BLØF drummer at the time.

De Graaff also marked the significant loss on her Instagram account on Tuesday, March 17th, sharing a photo of Götte with the poignant message, “Still close.” The accident had a considerable impact across the Netherlands, prompting a memorial service attended by prominent figures from the Dutch music scene, including artists such as Marco Borsato, Guus Meeuwis, and De Kast. This outpouring of support underscored the widespread respect and affection for Götte.

Following the tragedy, BLØF temporarily suspended their concert schedule before continuing with a novel drummer after several weeks. The band also honored Götte’s memory with the song ‘Dichterbij dan ooit’ (Closer Than Ever). Whereas the loss of Götte continues to deeply affect De Graaff, she has since found love again with sportswriter Nando Boers, who himself has experienced personal tragedy, having lost his wife Mariska to cancer.

Is De Graaff a good presenter?
