A recent episode of the Italian game show Affari Tuoi (Deal or No Deal) delivered a notably moving moment for one contestant, Angelica, and her fiancé Filippo. The couple, planning their June wedding, played the high-stakes game carrying the memory of Angelica’s grandfather, Renzo, a devoted fan who had passed away late last year. His cherished advice guided Angelica’s choices throughout the game, culminating in a decision that resonated deeply with viewers and showcased the show’s emotional core-and a surprising reveal about what could have been.
A recent episode of the Italian game show Affari Tuoi (Deal or No Deal) was filled with emotion as Stefano De Martino introduced Angelica and Filippo, a couple preparing for their wedding. The show also previewed a special February broadcast that will feature a live wedding celebration.
The couple shared their story, revealing they first met at a Tiziano Ferro concert. They also spoke about the absence of Filippo’s grandfather, Renzo, a devoted fan of the show who sadly passed away. Renzo and his granddaughter had even practiced playing the game together, hoping to appear on the show as a team.
A Gift From Grandfather Renzo
Early in the January 13th episode of Affari Tuoi, Angelica selected box number 16. Initially, the number didn’t seem particularly meaningful to her, but she hesitated to trade it. The “Doctor,” as the game show host is known, repeatedly offered her swaps, tempting her with increasingly high cash offers – starting at 40,000 euros and climbing to 45,000 and then 55,000 euros. Each refusal weighed heavily on her, leading to a difficult decision.
As the game neared its end, Angelica ultimately decided to make a change, choosing a special number: her grandfather Renzo’s lucky number, 17. She held onto it even more tightly after discovering that box 16 contained only 20 euros. However, she eventually accepted an offer of 55,000 euros, stating, “It doesn’t matter if there were 300,000 euros in there. I would still be happy because it would be worse to leave with nothing.”
The studio audience erupted in applause, and then came the final reveal:
“Angelica and Filippo will be getting married in June, and we are happy to have contributed to their special day with this game. There was a significant change, because she was supposed to be here with her grandfather Renzo, a great fan of the show. He always told her to choose number 17, and she made the switch at a critical point in the game. It’s possible that number 17 held the 300,000 euros. This allowed her to take home a wonderful sum of 55,000 euros. She chose that 17 specifically for her grandfather Renzo, and the Doctor reminded us that in this game, those who are here often connect with those who are no longer with us. He cited a rabbinic saying, ‘when the name of the deceased is spoken, he moves his lips.’ I, however, thought of another saying, ‘in life, you die twice, when your soul leaves your body and when someone stops naming your name.’ But thanks to this game, we kept the memory of grandfather Renzo alive, and so we dedicate it to him.”
Box number 17 did indeed contain 300,000 euros – a final gift from her grandfather. Angelica cried, but was content with her choice. The game had given her a feeling of her grandfather’s loving presence once more.
From Gennarina to Annalisa of the Discount Store
The episode wasn’t all emotion; it also featured the show’s signature lighthearted moments. A dance break set to the song Esibizionista was particularly memorable, culminating in the appearance of Herbert Ballerina, complete with a wig and microphone, as a playfully budget-friendly version of singer Annalisa, before his wig flew off mid-performance.
The couple also revealed their affection for their Jack Russell Terrier, Gennarina. They showed a sweet photo of Gennarina sporting a raincoat, ensuring she’ll be well-equipped for walks with the 55,000 euros they won, guaranteeing plenty of treats and toys.
