The Podium
Emma Aicher of Germany claimed victory in the first of two Super-G races in Soldeu, finishing ahead of Modern Zealand’s Alice Robinson and Switzerland’s Corinne Suter.
The Key Moment
Corinne Suter started with bib number 1 and, unfazed by the limited course information, delivered another strong run, mirroring her impressive performance in Friday’s downhill. She held the lead for a significant period until Alice Robinson, wearing bib number 8, took to the slopes. Robinson finished just a tenth of a second ahead of Suter, but even that wasn’t enough to secure the win as Emma Aicher had a phenomenal day.
How the Swiss Skiers Fared
Suter continues to find success in Soldeu. The other Swiss skiers, however, faced more challenges. Malorie Blanc didn’t contend for a top-ten finish, placing just outside the group. Jasmina Suter’s race ended after only a few gates, and Joana Hählen similarly failed to finish. Both Swiss skiers are still battling for a spot at the World Cup Finals.
Paddock Talk
Federica Brignone was forced to skip Friday’s downhill due to ongoing pain. The Olympic champion attempted a return in the Super-G, still grappling with the effects of her knee injury sustained in January. Brignone enjoyed a stunning February, capturing two gold medals at the Winter Games, but her run in Soldeu was more of a struggle than a showcase. A top result eluded the ski star this time around.
The race was marred by a serious crash involving Ricarda Haaser. The Austrian lost control and slid into the safety netting, requiring evacuation by rescue sled. Her teammate, Nina Ortlieb, also experienced a fall at the same location but was able to finish the race under her own power.
