Aichi Prefecture, Japan, is resuming its consideration of attracting an Integrated Resort (IR) and will begin soliciting proposals for development.
The prefecture announced on February 12, 2026, that it will seek proposals for an IR, with a focus on utilizing the Chubu Centrair International Airport island in Tokoname City as a potential site. The move comes after a pause in the process due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Aichi Governor Hideaki Ōmura stated, “We will work to make Aichi an international city” as he announced the resumption of IR consideration. The prefecture aims to leverage the IR to boost tourism and economic growth.
The prefecture’s decision to revisit the IR project underscores Japan’s ongoing efforts to develop large-scale tourism and entertainment facilities. The initiative is expected to draw significant interest from international casino operators and resort developers.
According to reports, the prefecture had previously halted investigations into IR possibilities during the height of the pandemic. The renewed focus signals a shift towards economic recovery and a willingness to pursue opportunities that could attract foreign investment.
The solicitation of business plans will allow Aichi Prefecture to evaluate potential IR proposals and determine the feasibility of establishing a resort complex in the region. The Chubu Centrair International Airport island is seen as a prime location due to its accessibility and existing infrastructure.
