“It was a privilege to work with Robert Duvall. He was, as they say, a natural actor, his relationship with the craft, the way he understood acting and his phenomenal talent will always be remembered. I will miss him,” Pacino said in his official statement, as reported by AFP on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.

Robert Duvall died surrounded by family at his home. The news was first shared by his wife, Luciana, in a Facebook post:

“Yesterday we said goodbye to my beloved husband, dear friend, and one of the greatest actors of our time.

To the world, he was an Academy Award-winning actor, director, and storyteller. To me, he was everything. His passion for the work was only matched by his deep love of characters, delicious food, and the ability to lead a conversation.

He always gave everything to the characters and to the truth of the human soul they represented. He leaves behind something lasting and unforgettable for all of us.

Thank you for the years of support you have given Bob and for the time and privacy you have given us to celebrate his memory.”

Born on January 5, 1931, in San Diego, Robert Duvall was raised in Annapolis, Maryland, by a father who served in the military.

After deciding to pursue an acting career, Duvall studied drama at Principia College in Illinois before moving to New York. He landed his first major acting role in 1962 with *To Kill a Mockingbird*.

Beyond *The Godfather* (1972) and its sequel, *The Godfather II* (1974), Robert Duvall was known for a string of popular films including *True Grit* (1969), *Gone in 60 Seconds* (2000), *Gods and Generals* (2003), and *Crazy Heart* (2009). Duvall’s work spanned decades and genres, cementing his status as a versatile and respected performer.

Duvall’s most recent roles were in *Hustle* and *The Pale Blue Eye*, both released in 2022, where he appeared alongside Adam Sandler and Christian Bale, respectively.
