In a strategic shift away from its luxury hospitality interests, the discount retail giant Aldi Süd has sold the Öschberghof, a prestigious five-star resort located in Germany’s Black Forest region.
The acquisition was made by the Zech Group, a Bremen-based family enterprise specializing in real estate and corporate investments. The transaction marks the end of a long-standing ownership period by the Aldi Regionalgesellschaft Donaueschingen, which had managed the high-end property alongside its regional retail operations for decades.
The sale of the luxury resort in the Black Forest underscores a move by the discounter to streamline its portfolio and refocus on its core retail business. While Aldi Süd is globally recognized for its efficiency in the grocery sector, the Öschberghof represented a distinct departure from its low-cost business model, operating as a top-tier destination for luxury travelers and golf enthusiasts.
The Bremen-based Zech company now takes over the management of the facility, which is well-regarded as one of the region’s most prominent starred hotels.
This divestment highlights the ongoing trend of corporate entities shedding non-core assets to optimize capital allocation. For the Zech Group, the acquisition of the Öschberghof represents a significant addition to its luxury real estate holdings, while for Aldi Süd, it removes a high-maintenance asset from its balance sheet.
The transition of ownership was reported on May 1, 2026, following news that the luxury hotel in the Black Forest was being sold to refocus the company’s strategic priorities.
