Stability and Performance Improvements Released for Android Devices
Google has issued the Beta 2 version of Android 16 QPR3, focusing primarily on enhancing system stability, performance, and the overall user experience. The latest quarterly update addresses several bugs and system instabilities identified following the release of the previous version. This update arrives as the mobile operating system landscape remains highly competitive, with manufacturers continually striving to optimize performance and user satisfaction.
The update resolves issues causing system crashes, graphical glitches in the notification shade and app menus, and errors that resulted in smartphones ignoring user-defined charging limits or experiencing excessive battery drain. These fixes are crucial for maintaining device reliability and extending battery life, key concerns for smartphone users.
Connectivity and App Issue Resolutions
Significant improvements have also been made to connectivity. Android 16 QPR3 Beta 2 fixes a slow Wi-Fi connection problem and an issue that caused dropped calls. A bug causing app lists to freeze during scrolling has also been addressed. Furthermore, Android Auto will no longer incorrectly report inflated screen time, which previously impacted device battery life.
Graphical distortions and performance drops while using the notification shade in full-screen or Picture-in-Picture mode have been corrected. Background processes have been optimized to resolve a problem with overnight battery drain. Devices will now adhere to lower charging limits when set, and the slow Wi-Fi issue has been resolved. Fixes also include issues with opening and responding to radio module settings, as well as a delay and lack of feedback when switching audio to the speakerphone during calls.
Additional fixes include screen flickering when exiting Always-On Display and launch failures for certain apps, particularly those managed by Microsoft Intune. Both wired and wireless charging have been improved. For foldable smartphones, system glitches that occurred when folding the device with an app open have been resolved.
New Features and Accessibility
Alongside bug fixes, the update activates several new features. Notably, Quick Share with AirDrop functionality, initially introduced with the Pixel 10 series, is now available on the Pixel 9 series. Users will also notice visual changes within the system settings page. The expansion of Quick Share functionality aims to streamline file sharing between devices, enhancing user convenience.
Android 16 QPR3 Beta 2 is available for a wide range of devices, from the Pixel 6 to the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, including the Pixel Tablet and Pixel Fold, as well as the Android Emulator. Over-the-air (OTA) updates are not available for the Pixel 10 series; installation is only possible directly on the device. The build number for Pixel 6, 6 Pro, 6a, Pixel 7, and 7 Pro is CP11.251209.007, while other devices use CP11.251209.007.A1. The beta version includes the January 2026 security patch. The stable Android 16 QPR3 release is expected in March 2026.
