Google has expanded access to the second beta of Android 17, now making it available to devices beyond its own Pixel line.

Android 17 is Google’s next major operating system release and the company has been rolling out beta versions to allow developers and enthusiasts early access. The first beta launched on February 11, with the second arriving shortly after. Until now, access was limited to Google Pixel devices.

The tech giant is now extending the beta 2 release to two additional smartphone models from different manufacturers. This move allows for broader testing and feedback as Google prepares the stable release. Still, users should be aware of potential risks associated with beta software.

Before diving in, it’s key to remember that beta software is primarily intended for experienced users, and developers. The current beta 2, for example, includes reported issues such as screen flickering and system crashes.

The first non-Pixel smartphones to receive the Android 17 beta 2 are the OnePlus 15 and the Oppo Find X9 Pro. Users who choose to download the update do so at their own risk.

According to Android Authority, installing the update will erase all data on the device. Specifically, the OnePlus 15 is experiencing issues with Google Cast functionality, and there is a risk of bricking the device. The Oppo Find X9 Pro’s beta 2 release contains bugs related to Oppo Interconnection features and touch interactions. This wider beta rollout is a crucial step in refining the Android experience before its public launch, highlighting the importance of community feedback in software development.
