The Annie Awards nominations were announced Monday, setting the stage for what is often seen as a key indicator of success at the Academy Awards. Competing for the award for Best Feature Film are “Little Amélie or the Character of Rain,” “Zootopia 2,” and “The Bad Guys 2.”

Pixar’s “Win or Lose” is a frontrunner in the television categories, garnering six nominations. The Annie Awards recognize excellence in animation across film and television, and have gained prominence as the industry evolves and animation technology continues to push creative boundaries.

The awards ceremony will take place on February 21, where juried awards will also be presented for “exceptional contributions to animation.” Dutch animator and director Michael Dudok de Wit will receive the prestigious Windsor McCay Award for his lifetime achievement. Chris Sanders, and the duo Christopher Miller and Phil Lord will also be honored with the award.

Historically, the Annie Award winner for Best Feature Film has frequently gone on to win the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. However, that trend was broken last year when “The Wild Robot” won at the Annie Awards, while “Flow” ultimately took home the Oscar.
