Apple TV: New Genius Browse & tvOS 26.4 Update

Apple is rolling out a significant update to its Apple TV experience with the release of tvOS 26.4, introducing a new feature called Genius Browse designed to streamline content discovery. The update aims to help users navigate the increasingly crowded streaming landscape by offering personalized movie and TV show recommendations.

A New Approach to Content Exploration

Genius Browse categorizes recommendations based on user preferences, with categories updated regularly. Examples include “Upbeat Workplace Comedies,” “Tense Psychological Thrillers,” “Breathtaking Nature Docs,” “Thrilling Blockbusters,” and “Fun for the Whole Family.” The feature isn’t static; new content categories will continually appear.

Integrated Streaming Content

Selecting a category provides a list of relevant suggestions, with options to further explore content through sections like “For You,” “TV Shows,” “Movies,” and “Genres.” As users browse, tvOS 26.4 also displays related titles to the currently highlighted selection. The recommendations extend beyond the Apple TV service itself, incorporating content from streaming platforms like HBO Max and Amazon Prime. However, content from Netflix is not included.

Apple is limiting the availability of Genius Browse to tvOS 26.4, meaning it won’t be available on iOS 26.4, iPadOS 26.4, or macOS 26.4.

Additional Improvements in tvOS 26.4

The tvOS 26.4 update also removes the standalone iTunes Movies and iTunes TV Show apps. Apple has improved the Apple TV Audio Format settings, adding more accessible customization options for subtitles. The company expects to release tvOS 26.4 as soon as next week.
