Arsenal have been crowned the inaugural champions of the FIFA Club World Cup, securing a thrilling 3-2 extra-time victory over Brazilian side Corinthians at a packed Emirates Stadium on Sunday. The newly-formatted tournament-which features continental champions from across the globe-showcases the growing prominence of womenS club football. Caitlin Foord’s decisive goal capped a dramatic match and cemented Arsenal’s status as the first holders of the title.

Arsenal claimed victory in the inaugural FIFA Club World Cup, defeating Corinthians 3-2 in a thrilling extra-time encounter at Emirates Stadium.
Frida Maanum (26) played a key role for the Gunners, providing an assist before Caitlin Foord scored the match-winner in extra time.
Following the triumph, Maanum was named Player of the Tournament and received the award from none other than Arsène Wenger.
Olivia Smith opened the scoring for Arsenal in the 15th minute, but Corinthians quickly responded with a goal from captain Gabi Zanotti six minutes later following a scramble in the box.

Lotte Wubben-Moy restored Arsenal’s lead in the 59th minute, heading home an Emily Fox cross to send the home fans into raptures.
Just as it appeared Arsenal would secure the win, a late penalty awarded to Corinthians leveled the score. Substitute Victoria calmly slotted the ball home, forcing the match into extra time.

Foord then sealed the victory for Arsenal late in the first period of extra time, making them the first-ever champions of FIFA’s new Club World Cup.
The tournament brings together the champions from four continents. Arsenal, fresh off their Champions League win last season, overcame FAR of Morocco in the semi-finals, while Corinthians had defeated Gotham FC of the United States. Gotham secured third place with a 4–0 victory over FAR in the bronze medal match.
