Audi E5 Sportback: Huge Discounts After Slow China Sales

Audi is offering significant discounts on its E5 Sportback model in China as sales have fallen short of expectations. The move comes as the German automaker attempts to gain traction in the competitive Chinese market with a vehicle designed specifically for local consumers.

The E5 Sportback, launched in August 2025, boasts a nearly 3-meter wheelbase, 787 horsepower, and a range of up to 773 kilometers (approximately 480 miles) based on Chinese testing standards. Features include a 59-inch display screen and a comprehensive suite of safety and assistance systems utilizing LiDAR, three radars, 11 cameras, and 12 ultrasonic sensors.

Initially priced at approximately 710,000 Czech Koruna (roughly $31,000 USD), Audi had high hopes for the model in the Chinese market. However, sales have lagged, with just 7,000 units sold since its launch and only 420 deliveries in January 2026. This performance significantly trails domestic competitors like Zeekr 007 GT and Xiaomi SU7.

In response to the lackluster sales, Audi has implemented price reductions. Customers can now save up to 90,000 Czech Koruna (approximately $3,900 USD) through a combination of discounts, tax incentives, and trade-in bonuses, bringing the starting price down to 620,000 Czech Koruna (around $27,000 USD).

Whether this will be enough to boost sales remains to be seen. The promotion is scheduled to run until March 31, 2026, but an extension is possible given the current sales figures. The price cuts follow similar moves by BMW and Mercedes-Benz last year, as premium brands seek to compete with the aggressive pricing strategies of domestic Chinese automakers.

Audi E5 Sportback looks like a concept. It actually has only one problem… it doesn’t pull.

The low sales figures for the Audi E5 Sportback are surprising, as the new model was recently named Chinese Car of the Year and Audi previously reported receiving 10,000 pre-orders within the first 30 minutes of its launch.
