Australian Open dreams were put on hold for Austrian teen Lilli Tagger on Thursday, as she fell short in qualifying for the prestigious Grand Slam tournament. The 17-year-old from East Tyrol lost to Lanlana Tararudee of Thailand 3-6, 0-6 in the final qualifying round in Melbourne.
Tagger’s defeat means Austria will be represented in the women’s main draw by Julia Grabher and Anastasia Potapova. On the men’s side, Filip Misolic will carry the Austrian flag.
Misolic will face a tough challenge in the first round, drawn against No. 14 seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina of Spain.
