Avinox, the motor manufacturer formerly part of DJI, may unveil two new electric bicycle motor systems as early as April 2026, including a high-performance version for e-MTBs and a lighter-weight option for urban apply.
Avinox, which became independent from DJI in July 2025, is reportedly preparing to expand its range of motors for electric bicycles. Multiple industry sources – via Watt Moves and Bike-x – suggest the new systems could arrive as early as April 2026, though no official announcement has been made. This potential expansion reflects the growing demand for powerful and efficient e-bike components.
A Motor That Made an Impact
In the summer of 2024, DJI surprised the industry with its first electric bicycle motor. The specifications quickly garnered attention: a peak torque of 105 Nm with a weight of just 2.52 kilograms. At the time, most competing motors topped out at 85 Nm.
The announcement helped redefine standards in the segment. Since then, motors exceeding 100 Nm have gradually become more common among market players.

Update Expected This Spring
According to various sources within the industry, Avinox is preparing an evolution of its current system. Several hypotheses circulate regarding the technical specifications.

Some rumors suggest a torque potentially reaching 150 Newton-meters. Other sources mention 130 Nm, a value considered more consistent by some observers. In either case, this would be a motor primarily intended for electric mountain bikes.
Other reports point to a different approach: comparable performance to the first motor, but with improved efficiency and adjustments aimed at correcting flaws in the first generation.
A Lighter Version Under Consideration
In parallel, another version is reportedly in development under the name Avinox M2 SL. This model could be a lighter-weight option, with slightly lower torque, intended for electric touring bikes and urban e-bikes.
Avinox currently has around fifteen OEM partners registered. This number could increase in the coming months as the company structures its business and, crucially, its product offerings.
If the information regarding an announcement in April 2026 proves accurate, the timing would coincide with the traditional launch of the “bike season,” ahead of spring and summer.
